How to prepare for Goa Forest Guard

  1. Make Konkani your first priority. You must score at least 4 out of 10 in the Konkani section of CBT I, or the rest of your paper is not evaluated at all, however well you do in English or reasoning.
  2. Master the General Geography of Goa for CBT II. It is worth 20 of 60 marks in the paper that decides merit: learn the talukas, the Mandovi, Zuari and other rivers, the Western Ghats, and protected areas such as Bhagwan Mahavir, Mhadei, Cotigao, Netravali and Bondla.
  3. English carries heavy weight across both tiers (30 marks in CBT I and 20 in CBT II), so practice reading comprehension and grammar daily.
  4. Treat CBT I as a gate, not the finish line. Only 20 times the vacancies reach the PET, and with very few Forest Guard posts the cut-off can be high, but your CBT I score does not count in the final merit.
  5. Since there is no negative marking in either CBT, attempt every question within the 75 minutes.
  6. Prepare for the walking test well before the PET: men must cover 25 km and women 16 km within 4 hours. Practice long walks on Goa's hilly roads to build endurance.
  7. Keep your 15 year residence certificate and Employment Exchange, Goa registration valid before applying, as the advertisement lists them among the required documents.
