How to prepare for Maharashtra Forest Guard
- Treat the running test as half the exam: it carries 80 of the 200 merit marks. Men should aim for 5 km in 17 minutes or less and women for 3 km in 12 minutes or less to collect the full 80, and every minute slower costs 10 marks at the top of the scale.
- Train separately for the 25 km (men) or 16 km (women) walk in 4 hours. It is qualifying only, but it comes after the merit list, so failing it after a good written score ends your selection.
- Build Maharashtra-specific GK: the notification says General Knowledge includes the state's geography, social history, forests, environment and climate. Learn the tiger reserves (Tadoba, Melghat, Pench, Sahyadri, Navegaon-Nagzira, Bor), major rivers and forest-rich districts.
- Do not neglect Marathi grammar. It is a full 30-mark section, and questions on sandhi, samas, vakprachar and mhani are scoring if you practice them daily.
- Clear the 45% online test cut-off with margin, then maximise your score. Because each question is worth 2 marks, a few extra correct answers can move you many places in a circle-wise merit list.
- Choose your forest circle carefully. You can apply to only one circle and you compete only within it, so check the circle-wise vacancy table and reserved posts (including local Scheduled Tribe posts) before applying.
- Check the physical standards before you invest months: men need 163 cm height and 79/84 cm chest, women 150 cm, with relaxed height for Scheduled Tribe candidates.
