TPSC CCE exam overview and highlights

About TPSC CCE

The Tripura Public Service Commission Combined Competitive Examination (TPSC CCE) for recruitment to Tripura Civil Service (TCS) Grade-II and Tripura Police Service (TPS) Grade-II is the premier state civil services examination of Tripura. Conducted by TPSC from Agartala (Akhaura Road), it selects Group-A Gazetted Officers who serve as Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Deputy Collectors, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and Deputy Superintendents of Police (SDPOs) across Tripura's 8 districts and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Under the revised TPSC CCE Rules, optional subjects were abolished in the Main Examination and replaced by six compulsory descriptive papers totaling 800 marks—Language Paper I (English) and Language Paper II (Bengali or Kokborok or Alternative English) of 100 marks each, plus four General Studies papers of 150 marks each—followed by a 100-mark Personality Test.

The examination process for TPSC CCE comprises 3 stages: Preliminary Examination, followed by Main Examination (Written Descriptive - 800 Marks, No Optional), followed by Personality Test (Viva-Voce). The official syllabus tests candidates across 6 core areas — History, Manikya Dynasty, Tribes and Cultural Heritage of Tripura (Prelims & Mains GS I), Geography, Resources and Economy of Tripura & North-East India (Mains GS I & III), Indian Constitution, Governance & TTAADC Sixth Schedule Administration (Mains GS II), Indian History, Society & Geography of India (Mains GS I), Indian Economy, Science & Technology, Environment and Internal Security (Mains GS III), Ethics, Numerical Ability & Compulsory Languages (Mains GS IV & Language Papers I-II) — focusing on conceptual clarity, speed, and accuracy. Prelims is a single 200-mark OMR screening paper that shortlists candidates (up to 10 times the vacancies) for Mains. Final merit is determined by the sum of all 6 compulsory Mains papers (2 Language papers of 100 marks each + 4 GS papers of 150 marks each = 800 marks) and the Personality Test (100 marks), totaling 900 marks.

How to prepare for TPSC CCE

  1. Master the Prelims composition carefully: out of 200 questions, 35 are from Mental Ability/Numeracy, 35 from Science/Environment, 35 from Current Affairs, and 20 from English—meaning 125 out of 200 marks come from non-humanities/current modules alongside 75 marks of History, Geography, Polity, and Tripura GK.
  2. Do not neglect Language Paper I (English - 100 marks) and Language Paper II (Bengali / Kokborok / Alternative English - 100 marks) in Mains; both are merit-counting papers that contribute 200 out of the 800 written marks (25% of Mains).
  3. Prepare thorough notes on the Manikya Dynasty (Rajmala), Tagore's special bond with Tripura, the Jana Shiksha Movement, and the Sixth Schedule governance of TTAADC.
  4. Notice that TPSC Mains GS papers use a granular question breakdown (2-mark, 4-mark, 5-mark, and 10-mark questions)—practice writing concise, fact-rich short answers.
  5. Ensure you hold a valid Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) before submitting the online application.
